Today, the Rohingya Muslims are still being killed and persecuted in Burma. Thousands of the Muslims are also still stranded at sea today. "As many as 12,000 Rohingya Muslims are believed to be stranded at sea as of May, 2015" (BBC). The prosecutions and lack of government help, both in Myanmar and the U.S. are still problematic today. The Rohingyas of Myanmar are almost completely helpless, and their numbers are too small to have a voice in the world. They have no money for influence and they are too small to be noticed by the rest of the world. If no one steps in soon, the ethnic cleansing could boil over into a full out genocide.
Why Important To Know? I believe it is important for people to know what is happening in Myanmar so they realize that even today, people can still be killed and persecuted because of their ethnicity and religion. I also think that this is important for people to know because most of what you see on the news and media is Muslim extremists groups killing other people. But people never hear about the thousands of Muslims in Myanmar that are being killed by Buddhist extremists. It is important for people to know that there are not just Muslim extremists in the world, but there are extremists of all religions and races.
